In his explosive new book that features scathing attacks on Jared Kushner, former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie claims that President Donald Trump’s son-in-law completely misjudged two key events that led to the appointment of special counsel Robert Mueller.
In snippets published by The Guardian, Christie claims that Kushner believed that Trump’s decision to fire former national security adviser Mike Flynn would be an easy way to end questions about whether the Trump campaign conspired with the Russian government during the 2016 presidential election.
In reality, Flynn would go on to plead guilty to lying to FBI agents about his talks with former Russian ambassador Sergei Kislyak, and would then subsequently give Mueller substantive cooperation in the investigation.
Additionally, Christie claims that Kushner encouraged Trump to fire former FBI Director James Comey because he did not believe it would lead to “an enormous sh*t-storm” in Washington, when it actually was the single most crucial event that led to Mueller’s appointment as special prosecutor.
“The president was ill served by poor advice,” Christie writes of Kushner’s counsel on how to deal with the Russia investigation.
