Hostess is ding-dong ditching one of its fan-favorite sweet treats.

The brand announced that it has “initiated a voluntary recall of select lots of Hostess®Ding Dongs® products due to the potential for the presence of mold,” per an online statement made on its website. Hostess specified that an investigation into the problem revealed a mechanical issue with a piece of equipment that “created conditions that could support the development of mold in the product prior to the expiration date.” The mechanical issue has since been resolved, only affecting a select number of products that have been listed in the withdrawal notice.

The recalled Hostess Ding Dongs have “Use By Dates” of Aug. 30 through Sept. 3. They include the Hostess Chocolate Ding Dong single serve (6 count), Hostess Chocolate Ding Dong (10 count) and Hostess Chocolate Ding Dong Family Pack (16 count), with individual UPCs of 00888109010027, 00888109011857, 00888109110611, 00888109011826 and 00888109110925.

Hostess is urging consumers who purchased the recalled products not to consume them and instead, return them to their place of purchase for a refund or replacement.

“We are committed to your health and safety, and we follow best practices to ensure the quality and safety of the products we sell,” J.M. Smucker Co., which owns Hostess Brands, said in its recall notice. “We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.”
