Everybody has their own airplane horror story: crying babies, delays on the tarmac, armrest fights, visibly sick seat-neighbors.
But the passengers on a recent Delta Airlines flight from Los Angeles to Salt Lake City might’ve just won the award for worst airplane experience ever.
Delta Air Lines flight 2311 was forced to turn around due to an “unpleasant odor” coming from spoiled food that was brought onboard by a passenger, KSL reported.
A Delta spokesperson said that rather than endure the smell for the two-hour flight, the plane was diverted back to Los Angeles for the “safety” of the passengers and crew.”
“As nothing is more important than the safety of our customers and people, our crew followed standard procedures to safely return to Los Angeles after an unpleasant odor was detected onboard. We apologize to our customers for the delay in their travels,” said the Delta spokesperson in a statement.
The airline has not commented on what the spoiled food item was, but they confirmed it was brought onboard by a customer and not part of Delta’s in-flight dining.
All 189 passengers, two pilots and four flight attendants were moved to another aircraft once back in Los Angeles.
