This week in Salon we're introducing our questions of the day — inviting you to weigh in with the Salon community on a thought-provoking topic.

It's beginning to look a lot like Black Friday. With the holiday shopping season already in full swing, new estimates from market research firm eMarketer predict American consumer sales over the next several weeks will top out at an unprecedented $1 trillion.

Will you be part of the retail rush that leaves the average American a thousand dollars in New Year debt? Or are you trying to find creative ways to dial down on the annual retail feeding frenzy? Are you a Thanksgiving doorbuster or a Christmas Eve Amazon Prime procrastinator? And does REI have the right idea by encouraging shoppers to do something different on Black Friday?

Tell us in the comments below about your holiday spending plan of attack.
