When it comes to snacking the right way, variety is always key. Can’t decide between savory or sweet? Why not choose both?
Last summer, “snackle boxes” — a portmanteau of snack and tackle boxes — went viral across social media as a must-have container for better snacking. The concept is simple: similar to tackle boxes (which are intended for fishing), snackle boxes contain multiple compartments that can hold everything from your favorite packaged snacks and candies to cut up fruit and vegetables. Videos on social media show social media users stashing their personalized boxes in their pantries for easy, at-home snacking. Others are seen packing and taking their boxes to the movies, the beach and even on flights.
Snackle boxes are also perfect for Fourth of July picnics. Meg Quinn, a Los Angeles-based food stylist and blogger behind Ain’t Too Proud To Meg, posted her own July 4th-themed snackle box in a 2024 Instagram post. Her multi-trayed box, which is embellished with red-white-and-blue deli paper and stickers, included preserved meats (Calabrese Salame and Italian Dry Salame), sour candies (like strawberry sour strips and sour blue raspberry belts), gummies, cinnamon candies, sliced star-shaped cheese (white cheddar and gouda), crackers and fresh fruit (strawberries, cherries, blueberries and blackberries).
To keep everything fresh, Quinn also placed a reusable ice pack in the bottom level of her box.
TikToker Grace Hewitt (@gracelynnhewitt99) also shared her take on a Fourth of July snackle box. It contained sour candies, raspberries, blueberries, sliced strawberries, crackers, cheese, Rice Krispies treats coated with patriotic colored sprinkles and red, white and blue colored chocolate-covered pretzels. Other snack options include watermelon & feta bites, cookies adorned with the American flag (if you’re feeling extra patriotic), chocolate-dipped strawberries, patriotic popcorn (made with white chocolate, pretzels and colorful candy) and festive marshmallow pops.

Of course, a Fourth of July snackle box doesn’t have to include a specific kind of snack or follow a strict color scheme. The key is to have fun creating your individual box/boxes and include the snacks that you enjoy the most.
As for finding the perfect tackle box for your snackle box, Aldi’s Melii Extra Large Snackle Box contains 24 adjustable compartments and comes in three different colors: black, blue and tan. Each box costs just $6.99, but is available for a limited time only. Melii also offers a mini snackle box, which earned rave reviews on Reddit. “They’re solid. Well made, keep[s] my kid’s snacks protected, and he loves being able to have fresh blueberries at the park now. No more crushed snacks or soggy fruit,” wrote user u/elRobRex.
Dollar Tree also sells clear plastic cases for only $1.25, Allrecipes reported last June. Same with Amazon, which sells various sizes of snackle boxes between $15 to $30.
