If Republicans do well in even some key midterm races, will Trump's dark, negative anti-immigrant rhetoric gain more speed? In a special Election Day edition of "Salon Talks," SalonTV's Amanda Marcotte and Dean Obeidallah break down how the president's messaging in the months and days leading up to the midterms have affected Republican voters and could impact how the party moves forward with its messaging.
"I'm worried that if Republicans win, or even if they do better than expected, they're going to take that as a sign that they should just double down on this stuff, and we're gonna see more murder, we're gonna see more terrorism. I'm terrified," Marcotte said.
The tactics, Obeidallah noted, are not new-Republicans have been using race to win elections for decades. Election Day, he says, "is not about fighting over higher, more regulations, or lower taxes, higher taxes. This is about who we are as a nation today."
