“I was lied to”: Jill Duggar Dillard on how Jim Bob and the IBLP controlled her

Jill Duggar Dillard opens up about feeling controlled by her father, family and religious community, the Institute in Basic Life Principles. While talking to Salon about her memoir "Counting the Cost," Duggar Dillard discusses realizing that her father, Jim Bob Duggar, still had a lot of influence over her after she got married and reflects on how her upbringing in the IBLP encouraged this. "There was a whole other level that I wasn't even aware of that really did make me feel like, 'Wait a second.'" she told Salon. "I'm like, why is there this handing off at the marriage altar, but then in reality, it feels like I've got the rug ripped out from under me, and I'm still under my dad's control?"
