"Evil is complex and complicated," prolific documentarian and Academy Award-winning film director Errol Morris said on "Salon Talks," about Steve Bannon, the subject of his new documentary, "American Dharma," which is making its U.S. premiere at the New York Film Festival this week.
During a conversation with Salon's Andrew O'Hehir, Morris explains how the film questions the ideology and career of the former Trump adviser, through a 16-hour sitdown interview he conducted with Bannon.
Despite the criticism media outlets have received for giving Bannon a platform, Morris explains why he put Bannon at the center of his film in an attempt to understand the man behind the populist rhetoric.
"This may be one of the most dangerous men in the world, make no mistake," Morris said about Bannon. "The important thing for us is not to turn our back on it and pretend it really isn't there, but to look at it square in the face and to try to figure out a way to deal with it."
