Over two years after Killer Mike supported Bernie Sanders during the 2016 campaign, he's throwing his support behind the "OG" Vermont senator to face President Donald Trump in 2020. Independent or Democrat, it doesn't matter, Mike told Salon, "by any means necessary" it's time for Sanders to run against Trump. "The only way to beat the Joker is with Batman," he added.
The rapper, entrepreneur and activist dropped by "Salon Talks" to talk about his new Netflix series "Trigger Warning with Killer Mike," streaming now, which is a social experiment surrounding Mike's ideas for tackling some of America's biggest problems, like race relations, public schools and political division.
What would it take for Bernie to beat Trump? "For us to get off our a*s and really do it," Killer Mike said. The Grammy Award winner noted that whether Sanders decides to run or not, what he's really hoping for is a "truly progressive" candidate. Mike is a fan of leaders like Ohio state Sen. Nina Turner and former Georgia state Sen. Vincent Fort.
And Killer Mike isn't ruling out a run for local office himself. "I'm the first in my family to be independently wealthy," Killer Mike explained. "Let me have enough money so that when I finally run for office, I'm unbribe-able."
