Nicole Karlis is a senior writer, covering women’s health, public health, and wellness culture since 2017. Before writing for Salon, she was a contributing editor at The Bold Italic. Her writing has also appeared in The New York Times and Marie Claire. She is the author of the book Your Brain on Altruism: The Power of Connection and Community During Times of Crisis. Nicole was the recipient of the USC Center for Health Journalism California Fellowship Project in 2020. In 2023, her story “The Online Baby Sleep Boom,” published in Salon, placed third in the consumer/feature category of the Association of Health Care Journalists Awards.
