Tatyana Tandanpolie
Tatyana Tandanpolie is a staff reporter at Salon, covering how power pushes marginalized people — particularly immigrants — out, how communities fight back and the role the Democratic Party plays in the battle.
She is currently based in Columbus, Ohio, and is a statewide and national award-winning journalist. She most recently won third place in business writing in The Press Club of Cleveland’s 2024 Excellence in Journalism Awards. Before that, she earned the Gold Award in the best personality profile (medium class) category of the Alliance Area Business Publisher’s 2021 Editorial Excellence Awards and won first place in the general circulation magazine’s personality profile category of The Press Club of Cleveland’s 2021 Excellence in Journalism Awards for her first cover story, “Open-Hearted: Dionte’ Johnson.”
Born and raised in central Ohio, she moved to New York City in 2018 to pursue degrees in Journalism and Africana Studies at New York University. She has previously written for a handful of local publications, including Columbus Monthly, CityScene Magazine and The Columbus Dispatch. When she’s not working, you can find her doing a French lesson on Duolingo to maintain her over 1700-day streak, practicing music ahead of her seasonal choir concerts, or engaging in her favorite activity: minding her business.
